As someone who has performed there with Glitz, Glasgow’s premier corporate showband, and stayed there as a guest, I can tell you it delivers on both counts.
The function suite at Clayton Hotel Glasgow seats around 200 guests and the building that surrounds it is genuinely beautiful. Grand staircases, modern chandeliers and large windows flood the space with light and give it an open, airy feel. It has that quality where the design and the function work together seamlessly. Whether you are dressing it for a wedding breakfast or a black tie corporate dinner in Glasgow, it takes both extremely well.
With 303 rooms, the Clayton can accommodate your guests in a way that many boutique venues simply cannot. Yet despite its size it never loses that intimate, carefully considered feel. The rooms are spacious and modern with gorgeous views over the River Clyde and Glasgow city. Your guests will not be disappointed.

Many couples planning a Glasgow wedding place the dance floor in the centre of the room. Our recommendation, having performed there, is to position it at the far end instead. You get a much larger dance floor, the band is not crowded in on top of the guests, and people can move easily between their tables and the floor without navigating the whole room. It makes the evening flow far better for everyone.
One of the most practical things a bride or groom can know when booking a live band is how straightforward the get-in will be at their venue. It directly affects how polished and relaxed the evening feels.
The function suite at the Clayton is on an upper floor. On our visit the process was smooth from start to finish. There was a clear route from the street, straight through the building and up via the elevator to the suite. The staff were excellent: proactive, helpful and on hand throughout. That kind of support on a load-in day makes a real difference, and the Clayton team got it right.
That said, as a band we carry a significant amount of equipment. For a setup and play on the same day it would be a fair push at this venue, purely for logistical reasons. Our preference here would always be to get in the night before. It gives us time to set up properly, do a full sound check and make sure everything is perfect before your big day. We would encourage any couple booking a live band at the Clayton to ask the hotel whether an evening-before setup is possible. It is not always available due to back-to-back bookings, but it is always worth asking early.
A stage is also a great option for this room, and the hotel can organise AV for you. If you need AV advice independently of a band, Glitz is happy to help point you in the right direction.
After the setup was done the evening before the event, I sat down at the Custom House Bar and Restaurant and ordered a chicken tikka masala. It was genuinely lovely, properly cooked and exactly the kind of meal that makes you slow down and appreciate where you are. The bar itself is beautiful: exposed stonework, high ceilings, great drinks. It does not feel like a hotel bar. It feels like somewhere you would go on purpose.
The express lifts are worth a mention. I will be honest, I am not a fan of lifts. But these are well designed, fast and smooth, and they get you to your floor without any of the usual unease. A small detail, but one that stands out.
My room was high up, and the view was worth every floor. The River Clyde below, the bridge lit up, Glasgow spread out quietly in the dark. The room itself was genuinely spacious, modern and calm. It is the kind of view that reminds you what a beautiful city Glasgow actually is.
